ONE OF THE most iconic old buildings in Dublin is the Stella cinema in Rathmines, which first opened its doors in 1923.
The cinema closed in 2004 and lay dormant until 2015, when it was put up for sale for €1.75m – the team behind The Liquor Rooms, Vintage Cocktail Club and The Dean Hotel bought it earlier this year, promising to return it to its former glory.
After months of refurbishment, it’s finally opening again on October 31 as a cinema, yes, but also a fancy cocktail bar.
The painstaking work has uncovered so many beautiful details, including the old ceiling and wall decorations:
They’ve also added some new things, like full-length beds for customers to lounge on right underneath the screen.
The plan is to show mainly blockbuster movies, and they’re asking people to vote for the first film to be screened in the refurbished cinema on Facebook.
Now, you’ll be paying a bit more for the privilege, as the Irish Times reports that tickets will cost around €19, not including drinks and snacks.
They’re not like typical cinema drinks and snacks, of course, and you can order them directly to your seats:
Keep an eye on the Stella Theatre Facebook page for details on upcoming screenings. We might faint from the glamour of it all.
